Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Leya people with our Mukuni Village Cultural Tour.
Zambia is a nation with over 72 tribes each tribe with its own distinct and identifying culture. The cultural diversity makes it very interesting to indulge in cultural excursions. This tour is conducted in Mukuni or Simoonga Villages of the Toka leya people
Mukuni Village was the largest settlement in the area before Livingstone was founded in 1905. It was established away from the then swampy banks of the Zambezi. You will still find many of the art decorates and colonial style buildings still standing.
Visiting the villages of Mukuni and Simoonga, a short ride from Livingstone, shows you how people in rural Zambia live. You get in an insight into the daily life; see how traditional clay huts and houses are being built and what work people do to make a living: farming, home industries and commerce.
A guide will take you on a stroll through the village, meeting families, who often are willing to show you their home and tell you about what it is like and enjoy living in this traditional Zambian way.
